Dear Habitat Friends,
Without much happening at our site in Texas City, I thought we could stand behind our fellow chapter members at the Bay Area Chapter of Habitat for Humanity in Dickinson. The Bay Area Chapter is sponsoring two great events this spring. There is a Women-only build and a 5K Walk. The first ever “Women Build” Event will join women from all over Houston’s Bay Area to make a difference in our community by funding and building a Habitat for Humanity home for a deserving family. The response has been phenomenal -women’s corporate groups, church groups, sororities, and professional groups are signing up and we invite women to swell our ranks and join in the fun!
The 5K walk to help “Step Out to Stamp Out Poverty” housing in our area will be held Sunday, February 8, 2009, 3 pm at the University of Houston – Clear Lake. T-shirts will be provided to all registered participants. The registration fee is $25. Registration is a two-step process. First, pay the fee using Paypal. Second, register for the walk at the Bay Area Habitat for Humanity site. A map and directions to UH-Clear Lake can be found on the UHCL website. A campus map is also provided.
Sponsors include Capital One Bank, Barrios Technology, Clear Lake Methodist Women, Clear Lake Panhellenic Association, Clear Lake Presbyterian Women, Gloria Dei Lutheran Women, Chapter GI, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Priscilla Ennis – RE/Max Space Center, University Baptist Women, W.O.W. – Women of the Word and Webster Presbyterian Church.
C’mon out and support our fellow Habitat for Humanity volunteers!

Happy New Year, Habitat Friends!
We’re cruising into 2009 and have high hopes for the coming year. Unfortunately, although we have land to build on, we don’t yet have a qualifying family for this year’s build. When a family is selected we’ll begin our build process. We’ll do our best to keep you informed of our upcoming activities through this website.
Basic information about qualifying for a Habitat home including the criteria listed below:
- the applicant’s level of need
- willingness to become partners in the program (e.g., willing to put in the required amount of “sweat equity”)
- the ability to repay the no-profit, no-interest loan
- the household has a steady income (income caps are applied)
- the applicant owns no property
- the applicant carries no debt
If you have questions or would like to apply, please call Bob Greeley at the Texas City Habitat office 409-945-4696.
