General Information
Volunteers from all over the Houston/Galveston Area join together twice each week to work on homes for a specially selected Habitat family.
Days and Hours
We have two main crews that work on the houses in our Chapter who work mainly Thursdays and Saturdays. We start work around 8 am and are generally finished working by 1:00 pm either day.
Tools/Supplies
All anyone really needs to work on a Habitat for Humanity home project are a set of hands and a willingness to work with and for others and maybe to learn a new skill or two. If you’d like to bring your own hammer or other small tools, you are welcome to do so.
Tasks and Skills
There are plenty of jobs that don’t require any prior knowledge of home construction or repair. If you’re not sure about climbing ladders or operating power tools and you’re interested in learning, we’ll be happy to work with you and show you how it’s done. Otherwise, we’ll be thrilled if you could come out and hold a tape measure, hammer a nail, tighten a nut, paint a wall, lays some sod, pick up lunch or help with cleanup. There are plenty of tasks for everyone throughout the building process.

We would like to bring about 6-8 youth (ages 16-18) to Galveston on June 25 – 29. We are trying to do a combination mission/fun trip. Is there a need during these dates in the Galveton area? There would be 3 adults that would accompany these youth in working for Habitat. If there is nothing for these youth to do during this time, can you direct me to someone who might be able to put our youth to work? Thanks! In His service…Kathy Madison

Hi Kathy,
We should still be working on the house in that time frame. If we are not, there are the Bay Area and Alvin Chapters that may be working on a home, also. I will check into some other options for you in case we do not have work to do at that time.
Thanks!

Hi,
My husband & I would like to come lend our hands anytime during The Thanksgiving week-end. Will there be any groups working then, or are you all shut down until after the holiday?

Tom,
I just learned that there is a special volunteer program in the works for the Texas City Galveston area. Our Habitat site manager, Bob Greeley, can give you more details. Please call him at 409-945-4696.

Hi Tom,
Our volunteers are all locals. There are places to stay in and around the Houston/Galveston area. There are more hotels/motels and apartments coming available every day. There are a number of websites dedicated to lodging in the area. I would start with http://www.galveston.org/.
Thanks,
Lori

Hi Cleveland Wheeler!
Sorry for the lack of updates on the site – I’ve been out of town or busy with out of town guests the past couple of months. We are right now at the point of getting ready to put siding on the house. We’d love to have you come down and help out doing whatever you can.
